Kapil Sharma's Security Heightened After Gun Attack At His Canada-Based Café

Security beefed up at Kapil Sharma's Mumbai home after a Canada café shooting linked to Babbar Khalsa; no injuries reported, Netflix shoot on hold.

Security has been tightened outside comedian Kapil Sharma’s Mumbai home after a gunfire incident targeted his café in Canada. Police personnel were deployed outside his Oshiwara residence on Friday, as the authorities assess the potential threat following the attack allegedly linked to a terror group.

Shooting at Surrey Café Triggers Safety Concerns

The incident in question took place in the early hours of Thursday at Kap’s Café, located in Surrey, British Columbia. According to reports, nine bullets were fired at the establishment by Harjit Singh, an alleged member of the terror outfit Babbar Khalsa. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The assailant, Harjit Singh, has publicly taken responsibility for the attack. He claimed the act was in response to alleged comments made on a television show hosted by Kapil Sharma that were perceived as offensive toward Nihang Sikhs and their attire.

Mumbai Police on Alert, Netflix Shoot Put on Hold

Back home in India, the ripple effect of the shooting has made Kapil Sharma’s ongoing professional commitments uncertain. Sources close to the comedian say that he is yet to confirm whether he will attend the next shoot for his popular Netflix series The Great Indian Kapil Show, which is typically filmed in Filmcity.

The shooting at Kap’s Café adds to a growing list of targeted incidents involving Indian-origin celebrities in Canada. In September 2023, a similar shooting occurred at the Vancouver residence of Punjabi music artist A.P. Dhillon. Later, in November, jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi claimed responsibility for a shooting at singer Gippy Grewal’s home.

These attacks coincide with increasing tensions related to Khalistani separatist activities in Canada, which have reportedly created frequent clashes within the Indian diaspora.
