'Jug Jugg Jeeyo' Faces Plagiarism Accusations From Indian Writer And Pakistani Singer

A writer named Vishal A Singh has claimed that Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions copied his script titled Bunny Rani for 'Jug Jugg Jeeyo' starring Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor.

New Delhi: The trailer of Dharma Productions' 'Jug Jugg Jeeyo', starring Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor, and Neetu Kapoor, was released yesterday and the film has landed in controversy already.

A writer named Vishal A Singh has claimed that Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions copied his script titled Bunny Rani for 'Jug Jugg Jeeyo'. In a series of tweets, the writer has shared the screenshots of his mails that he had sent to Dharma Productions.

"Had registered a story.. #BunnyRani with @swaindiaorg in January 2020. I had officially mailed @DharmaMovies in February 2020 for an opportunity to co-produce with them. I even got a reply from them. And they have taken my story.. and made #JugJuggJeeyo. Not fair @karanjohar", read Vishal's tweet.

He shared the extract of the synopsis of his film and wrote, “Please read extract of the synopsis of #BunnyRani I had mailed to @DharmaMovies in Feb 2020. And then go on to watch the #JugJuggJeeyo trailer and judge by yourself."

Singh also said that there are multiple incidents in the Hindi film industry where scripts are used without the knowledge of the writer. “Am aware that what happened with me is happening in the #HindiCinema industry all the time. That doesn't mean.. I should shut up? I have chosen to raise the flag coz I want this malpractice to stop. This can't go on forever. BunnyRani #JugJuggJeeyo,” he tweeted.

Vishal Singh asked Karan Johar to start the 'truth and reconciliation process'. “If what am saying is wrong.. @DharmaMovies should act strongly against me? And if am right.. #Dharma and @karanjohar should start the #TruthAndReconciliation process. If #HindiCinema has to prosper.. serious issues can never operate in grey zone? What do you think,” he wrote.

Dharma Productions has not yet responded to the accusations.

This is not the only Plagiarism accusation that the film is facing. Earlier, Pakistani singer Abrar ul Haq had accused filmmaker Karan Johar and his production house Dharma Productions of stealing his music.

Abrar tweeted, “I have not sold my song “ Nach Punjaban” to any Indian movie and reserve the rights to go to court to claim damages. Producers like @karanjohar should not use copy songs. This is my 6th song being copied which will not be allowed at all.”

He also said that the song has not been licensed to anyone. “Song “Nach Punjaban” has not been licensed to any one. If someone is claiming it , then produce the agreement. I will be taking legal action,” he said.

Music company T-Series has replied to this accusation and said that the company had legally acquired the rights to adapt the song.

'Jug Jugg Jeeyo', directed by Raj Mehta, will release on June 24, 2022
