‘I Wept Loudly’: Aditi Rao Hydari Shares How She Felt When Her Movie Did Not Release In Theatres

She said that she suffered a breakdown after knowing that her Malayalam film ‘Sufiyum Sujatayum’ had been launched on OTT rather than in theatres.

New Delhi: Aditi Rao Hydari graced the Cannes International Film Festival's red carpet yesterday. The actress, who has acted in a number of movies in a variety of languages, said that she burst into tears when she found out that her movie was going to be released on an online streaming service.

She said that she suffered a breakdown after knowing that her Malayalam film ‘Sufiyum Sujatayum’ had been launched on OTT rather than in theatres.

In an interview with TOI, Aditi shared, “It was a very special Malayalam film and I was playing a mute girl. I was so excited for its theatrical release. I wept loudly. They (the makers) took my view into consideration, but I realised that I can’t put producers under stress.”

After she began receiving positive feedback, the actress said that she quickly saw the power of OTT platforms and that she came to the conclusion that the medium itself is unimportant. Aditi said, “Then I saw the magic of OTT. I was getting messages from everywhere, and I realised that the medium is not important.”

During an interview at Cannes, the actor also weighed in on the South vs North argument, stating that the business as a whole has to be more welcoming to people of all backgrounds.

The most recent time we saw Aditi, she was appearing in the romance drama ‘Hey Sinamika’, which was filmed in Tamil and also starred Dulquer Salmaan and Kajal Aggarwal.
