Exclusive | 'You Will Laugh, You Will Clap, You Will Dance, You Will Cry': Gaurav Chopra On 'Gadar 2'
Gaurav Chopra shared what can the audience expect from the film and also discussed whether this clash with 'OMG 2' will affect the box office numbers.
New Delhi: 'Gadar 2' is all set to hit the theatres on August 11. The much awaited Sunny Deol-Ameesha Patel starrer will be facing a clash with Akshay Kumar starrer 'OMG 2', which is also releasing on the same date. In a conversation with ABP Live over a video call, Gaurav Chopra, who plays the character of 'Colonel Raawat' in 'Gadar 2' shared what can the audience expect from the film and also discussed whether this clash will affect the box office numbers.
Gaurav said, "Let's talk about Gadar first- I am expecting nothing less than a blockbuster opening to the film and the advanced bookings have already proved that, so it's not even an estimate anymore. With due respect to the other film, I think its releasing at a time when there is an elongated sort of a weekend and that's more than enough time for two films to draw in their own respective audiences. It's enough time for people to go to cinema halls twice."
Talking further about 'Gadar 2', he said, "Gadar' comes with its own legacy of 22 years, and people have not stopped watching it. It created a record of being watched the maximum number of times and it also sold the maximum number of tickets ever, which means maximum number of people saw it. And, it has continuously been watched by the people whether it came on television or OTT. I don't think, it now belongs to any one generation in particular because everybody has been watching it and the old-school simplicity that it has, it tugs at your heart and the emotional bonds in a family..."
"There are lesser films like these, so I think people will lap it up. It's that hindi commercial film that you are waiting for. You will laugh, you will clap, you will dance, you will cry. It's a complete package of what a hindi film entertainment model should be like. Anil Sir has done a great job in recreating the old Gadar, and keeping the old flavour alive," he further added.
Gaurav initially had said 'no' to the character played by him in 'Gadar 2' but eventually agreed to do it.
Discussing this with ABP Live he said, "I was in this whole phase of experimentation and when I first heard that this role was being offered and that the number of scenes were not too many, I thought that I don't want the experimentation to seem like I am doing insignificant parts. I didn't want people to think 'Oh he is now moving from one medium to another medium, so he is now doing smaller parts.' But Anil Ji was persistent and when I heard the narration, phir to seedha haan ho gayi. I completely understood why he wanted me to do it and said 'yes' to him right there and then."
