‘Ab Aayi Na Line Pe’: Farah Khan Recalls Harsh Industry Reactions To Tees Maar Khan’s Failure

Farah Khan revealed in her latest vlog that the film industry celebrated the failure of her 2010 film, 'Tees Maar Khan', starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif.

Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan recently opened up about the difficult phase she went through after the underwhelming performance of her 2010 film Tees Maar Khan. In a candid conversation featured in her latest YouTube vlog, Farah revealed how certain individuals from the film industry reacted with unexpected joy over the movie’s failure.

"People Were Happier About My Failure Than My Success"

The vlog was filmed at the home of producer Jackky Bhagnani and actor Rakul Preet Singh, where Farah engaged in a heartfelt conversation with Jackky and her longtime cook, Dilip. The discussion soon turned toward career setbacks, prompting Farah to recall the tough time she faced following Tees Maar Khan's release.

“In our industry, more than being happy for your success, people are happier for others' failure. I remember when Tees Maar Khan was released, there was literally a celebration in the film industry. People I had worked with were saying things like, ‘Ab aayi na line pe’ (Now she’s been put in her place),” Farah said.

Gen Z Loves It, Says Farah

Despite the initial criticism and box office disappointment, Farah shared that Tees Maar Khan has unexpectedly gained popularity among younger audiences over time.

Tees Maar Khan is a legend with Gen Z. They don't care for my other films. They think that (Tees Maar Khan) is the one,” she said with amusement.

Jackky Bhagnani on Drawing Strength from His Father’s Journey

During the same vlog, Jackky Bhagnani also spoke about dealing with failure, referencing the poor box office performance of his 2024 film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. He revealed how his father, veteran producer Vashu Bhagnani, remains his source of strength.

Jackky shared, “My father once sold sarees on the footpath before making it big in Bollywood.”

About Tees Maar Khan

Released in 2010, Tees Maar Khan was a heist comedy starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, directed by Farah Khan. The film generated significant buzz pre-release, thanks to its high-energy songs—especially the chartbuster Sheila Ki Jawani. However, despite the hype and a star-studded cast, the film was critically panned and failed to live up to expectations at the box office.
