New Delhi: Comedian and actor Vir Das has raised a pertinent issue through his Instagram account pointing out the vulgarity of songs behind the scores of fashion reels that are flooding the social media platform.


In his latest Instagram post, the comedian says, “There are thousands of fashion reels and no one heard it”. In his video posted on the photo-sharing platform, the comedian uses the music in the background which is quite a rage among influencers. He goes on to question if influencers actually listen to the lyrics before making such reels. The explicit sexual connotations in the song mentioned by the comedian in his post bring back the focus on vulgarity in songs.

In the age of social media, several apps have made their way into the entertainment industry, and there is no dearth of influencers who keeps using the new features to keep their audience hooked.


Most people without comprehending the lyrics end up using such foot-tapping music to make reels, tik tok videos, short videos. The song in question is the remix of Touch It  by Busta Ryhmes, is definitely rated under the vulgar category crossing all its limits.


Such social media platforms are now easily accessible by kids and teenagers which raises concerns with exposure to vulgar lyrics.  Image manipulation mobile app such as Wombo is another scary app, which can be easily misused if left to kids. It is for the best interest that such songs and music are killed before they climb to the popularity chart, thanks to influencers.


Earlier singer Honey Singh had courted several controversies for his new music video including Makha, where he has used lyrics such as ‘Main hoon womaniser’. He had also faced trouble from the Punjab and Haryana High Court over the lyrics 'Main Hoon Balatkari' in one of his songs.


Bollywood music is also not devoid of such vulgar depiction in songs and music videos. However, the onus lies on the influencers on social media platform who can control the medium and ensure that the correct message goes across the lakhs of followers watching them.
