Varun Dhawan Speaks About His Driver's Sudden Death: 'Began Reading The Bhagavad Gita, Mahabharata...'

Varun Dhawan recently shared a heart-wrenching account of the sudden death of his driver, Manoj Sahu, who passed away from a heart attack.

New Delhi: Bollywood star Varun Dhawan recently talked out about the devastating loss of his driver, Manoj Sahu, who died suddenly of a heart attack in Mumbai on January 18. Shortly after Varun rushed Manoj to Lilavati Hospital and performed CPR on him, the doctor there declared him dead. As he reflected on the loss, Varun confessed that it had an emotional effect on him, especially the ease with which Manoj's life slipped away as he was holding him.

Varun spoke up about how his outlook changed when Manoj passed away, and how it affected his career and personal life, in a heartfelt interview with Ranveer Allahbadia posted on his YouTube channel. According to Varun, who said, "For the longest time, I was living in a bubble," he thought he understood life until his long-time driver passed away, shattering that illusion. He said, "There is a Varun Dhawan before and after 35," highlighting the change in his character that occurred in the aftermath of the tragedy.

Varun described the moment Manoj died away as very disturbing, despite his attempts to rescue him. He shared, “I did CPR. We took him to Lilavati Hospital and we got him there on time. It was like we saved someone’s life. But he passed away in my arms. It was hard to see how casual was his passing. It just happened like that.”

Varun Dhawan on Coping with Grief

According to Varun, holy scriptures such as the Bhagavad Gita and the Ramayana helped him make sense of his tragic loss and go on with his life. He said, “I realised you have to move forward as a human being. These incidents shake you, but you can’t stay stagnant. I began reading the Bhagavad Gita, Mahabharata, and Ramayana—just randomly—because I had so many questions.”
