New Delhi: The famous Ukrainian singer Uma Shanti has been accused of demeaning India's national flag during a performance at a club in Mundhwa. The Pune Police have filed an FIR against her. On Sunday night, an event was captured on video. The video quickly gained attention online. The FIR was lodged by Havaldar Tanaji Deshmukh at the Koregaon Park police station after a video of the purported conduct was extensively disseminated over social media. 


Uma Shanti, the lead singer of the band Shanti People, allegedly performed at a pre-Independence Day event that was organised by Karthik More and held at the Freq - Super Club Bar Kitchen. 


Senior police inspector Vishnu Tamhane stated that a complaint had been filed against Uma Shanti and organiser Kartik Morein.


Uma Shanti was spotted dancing while holding the national flag in both of her hands throughout her performance and then tossing the flags into the crowd. The footage of the incident became viral, and authorities eventually opened an investigation.

Sandeep Jore, an assistant police inspector, has been assigned to the case. The singer faced legal action after she was accused of disrespecting India's national flag.


According to Punekar News, the charges are filed under the Maharashtra Police Act, Section 110, and the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, Section 2. As of now, no one has been taken into custody.


Last week, the Ukrainian band ‘Shanti People’ played in both Bengaluru and Bhopal as part of their India tour. The band was in India last week, and they played in Bangalore and Bhopal the week before that. This was Shanti's second performance in Pune; the first was in October of 2022.
