Actors Naga Chaitanya and Sobhita Dhulipala, who tied the knot in December in Hyderabad, opened up about their relationship and the unique journey that led them to each other.

Actors Naga Chaitanya and Sobhita Dhulipala, who tied the knot in December in Hyderabad, opened up about their relationship and the unique journey that led them to each other. In a candid interview, the couple reflected on how their connection grew from an unexpected encounter to a steady and lasting bond.

How Naga and Sobhita first met

In an interview with the New York Times, the couple shared that they first crossed paths at his father, actor Nagarjuna’s residence during a casual lunch. Nagarjuna, who was impressed by Sobhita's performance in a film, had invited her over for an informal gathering. However, it wasn’t until a year after Chaitanya's divorce from actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu that they shared their first meaningful conversation.

When Naga and Sobhita started talking

Months later, Sobhita noticed a story on Instagram that Chaitanya had posted about a Japanese restaurant he owns. That small interaction led to something significant.

Chaitanya, who is not particularly fond of online communication, told New York Times, “I’m not a fan of texting. I’m not a fan of communicating on social media.” Instead of continuing the conversation virtually, he decided to fly from Hyderabad to Mumbai just to have lunch with her. Reflecting on the gesture, Sobhita shared, “That was the charming part. It was so old school in a way.”

Their connection strengthened when they met again just a week later at an Amazon Prime Video event in Mumbai. Sobhita vividly remembered the moment, saying, “I was in a red dress, he was in a blue suit. And the rest is history.”

Their first trip together

They took their first trip together to Bandipur National Park, accompanied by Chaitanya's friends. The couple spent time bonding over lighthearted activities, including drawing henna designs on each other. Sharing how their contrasting personalities brought balance, Sobhita said, “He’s a doer. I’m a be-er. I’m the fluttering kite and he’s the anchor. Our dissimilarities really kept us interested and curious about each other.”

The following year, they traveled to London for a concert, where Sobhita spent New Year’s Eve with Chaitanya’s family. By 2023, Chaitanya had the opportunity to meet Sobhita’s family in Visakhapatnam.

Chaitanya proposed to Sobhita in Goa

It was during a trip to Goa in August 2023 that Chaitanya proposed. Speaking about their journey and what made their bond so strong, Sobhita explained, “There is alignment, there’s chemistry, there’s curiosity. And it became obvious that our dissimilarities kept the tension alive in good ways and bad. We definitely wanted each other — that much was understood.”

She further added, “It was cute, and it was steady. It’s not a case of two tender hearts falling in love. It was more like two metals being welded by the same wants from life, and we were able to speak about those things freely without inhibitions. That moved me.”
