New Delhi: Sharmin Segal is one of the pivotal characters of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's web series 'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.' Despite getting substantial screen time in the courtesan drama, the 'Malaal' actress failed to make a mark on the audience, leading to facing criticism for her performance on social media. As a result of the flak received from netizens, Sharmin turned off comments on her Instagram posts, prompting her co-star Shruti Sharma to step forward in her support.

During an interview with PinkVilla, Shruti talked about all the trolling faced by Sharmin for her performance in the series that released on Netflix on May 1. She said, "Honestly, I wasn’t aware that people were trolling her until now. I don’t know what audiences have liked or not liked about Sharmin, but I’ve seen her trying her best like everyone else on the sets. It doesn’t matter who’s being trolled, but trolling is a bad thing to do.”

Shruti Sharma essayed the role of Sharmin's maid and her confidante in the series.

Shruti further added, “Criticism is one thing; healthy criticism is always welcome, but trolling is unacceptable. It is a very negative way of approaching anyone. It is a kind of mental harassment. If it is happening, I am very concerned for her right now.”
