Breaking Bad Actor Mark Margolis Dies At 83

Morgan Margolis passed away on Thursday at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City after a short illness.

New Delhi: Mark Margolis, who portrayed Hector Salamanca in the critically acclaimed drama 'Breaking Bad', has died at the age of 83. During his last moments, he was surrounded by his wife and son. Mark's son Morgan Margolis, actor and Knitting Factory Entertainment CEO, confirmed his father's death Thursday at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.

Margolis passed away at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City after a brief illness, according to his publicist.

Margolis began his acting training in New York City with renowned instructor Stella Adler. He was born in Philadelphia in 1939. Early in his career, he devoted most of his time to acting on stage, performing in dozens of off-Broadway musicals and at the Public Theatre in New York. 

In 2012, Margolis received an Emmy nomination for his performance as Hector "Tio" Salamanca in 'Breaking Bad'. He conveyed his emotions in the series by expressions on his face and the occasional threatening usage of a barhop bell tied to his wheelchair.

In 2016, the second season of the 'Breaking Bad' prequel series 'Better Call Saul' premiered, giving Mark Margolis another shot at the role of Salamanca.

He has starred in several films and television shows, including The Equaliser, American Horror Story: Asylum, Black Swan, Scarface, and others.

The late actor's legacy was praised by filmmaker Darren Aronofsky. He wrote on Twitter, "Once you lose your scientific rigor you are no longer a mathematician, YOU’RE A NUMEROLOGIST!” MARK MARGOLIS LEGEND!"

Co-creator of Better Call Saul Peter Gould tweeted, “Absolutely devastated to hear that we’ve lost Mark Margolis" and then added, “Mark was brilliant, funny, a raconteur with a million stories. I miss him already."
