Karan Johar Moves High Court Against Makers Of 'Shadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar'

Karan Johar has filed a lawsuit in the Bombay High Court against the makers of the upcoming Hindi film ‘Shaadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar’, alleging unauthorised use of his name in the movie's title.

Bollywood director-producer Karan Johar has filed a lawsuit in the Bombay High Court against the makers of the upcoming Hindi film ‘Shaadi Ke Director Karan Aur Johar’, alleging unauthorised use of his name in the movie's title.

According to PTI, Johar's legal plea seeks a permanent injunction and restraining order against the film's producers, IndiaPride Advisory and Sanjay Singh, as well as writer-director Bablu Singh, to prevent them from using his name in the title.

The case was brought before a single bench of Justice R.I. Chagla on Wednesday, with the court scheduling a hearing for Thursday.

The film is set to release on June 14.

Karan Johar's plea

As per the report, Johar, 52, asserts that he has no association with the film or its creators. He claims the use of his name in the title violates his personality rights and right to privacy, exploiting his goodwill and reputation without consent.

Johar emphasised that this unauthorised use is causing irreparable harm to his reputation and brand.

On the work front

Karan Johar's latest production, 'Kill', featuring Laksh Lalwani, is slated for release on July 5, 2024. Johar has described the film as "India's most violent movie." 'Kill' had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) last year, drawing significant attention.

In addition to 'Kill', Johar recently produced Siddharth Malhotra’s Yoddha and Sara Ali Khan’s 'Ae Watan Mere Watan'. The 52-year-old producer-director has an exciting slate of films lined up for 2024 and 2025, including 'Bad News', 'Jigra', 'Indian 2', 'Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari' among others.
