Gullak Actress Sunita Rajwar Says She Knew She's 'Normal Looking', Talks About Being Typecast In Maid Roles

Sunita Rajwar was questioned if she feels looks matter when it comes to getting into the film business. Here's what she replied.

New Delhi: The recent releases of 'Panchayat 3' and 'Gullak 4' have put Sunita Rajwar in the spotlight. At the 77th Cannes Film Festival, the actress was also a representative for her film Santosh in the Un Certain Regard section. Sunita has been making appearances in films and TV series for the last twenty years. Having said that, she did briefly step away from acting due to feeling trapped by doing maid roles. In a recent interview, she addressed beauty standards for actors.

In a podcast with Digital Commentary, Sunita Rajwar jokingly says that if would have done a few more ‘maid’ roles, her name would have been in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Explaining why she left television, she said, “ I had seen many of my senior artists who started saying that it doesn't matter, this much money comes every month. So, I thought that I didn't want to become that person who thinks that even if I am just standing for work, it doesn't matter, the money comes anyway because then you get used to it and you are needed. Then you suppress your desire and do some invaluable work. Your self-respect ends and you don't have any choice. I felt that if I didn't take care of myself now, I might also become like them.”

Sunita Rajwar Talks About Her Looks

Sunita Rajwar was questioned if she feels looks matter when it comes to getting into the film business. And the actress's response was that she was well aware of her unattractiveness.

She said, “I am the ugliest-looking person in my house, the darkest, the worst, I don't have any manners of talking. My sister is very beautiful, my brother is also beautiful, my father is very nice. Everyone looked good and I was a very ill-mannered type.”

She continued, “Everyone used to praise my sister. She was very fair, her lips were maroon, golden hair, she was good in her studies, she was well mannered, and she was good in all the household work. So, I knew that I was very normal looking and looked dirty. At that time I probably looked even more dirty.”

In ‘Panchayat’, Sunita plays the role of Kranti Devi, while she plays Bittu ki Mummy in 'Gullak’.
