As Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan turns 82 today, October 11, 2024, fans are taking a moment to reflect on both his iconic career and his personal life, particularly his enduring relationship with wife Jaya Bachchan. The couple, married for over five decades, continues to inspire with their love and strong bond. However, Big B once humorously admitted that Jaya is “stricter” with him than with their children.
What Amitabh Bachchan said about wife Jaya
During an episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 15 last year, Amitabh had a playful exchange with a contestant named Jaya Patel, who happened to be a teacher. She shared that while she was strict at work, she was gentler at home. Curious, she asked Amitabh what he thought of the name Jaya, referring to his wife.
With his signature wit, Amitabh responded, “Well, my experience… (pauses)” before sharing that Jaya, like many, has both strict and lenient sides.
On a different occasion, during her granddaughter Navya Nanda’s podcast What The Hell Navya, Jaya spoke about the conditions Amitabh had before they got married. She recalled how they had planned to wed in October once her work commitments lessened. Amitabh had made it clear that he didn’t want a wife with a 9-to-5 job, advising Jaya to choose her projects carefully and work with the right people.
Amitabh and Jaya tied the knot in an intimate ceremony on June 3, 1973. They are proud parents to Shweta Bachchan Nanda, born in 1974, and Abhishek Bachchan, born in 1976.
On the professional front, the megastar is currently hosting Kaun Banega Crorepati 16, and his film Vettaiyan with Rajinikanth was released to coincide with his birthday.
