Bipasha Basu Recalls Being Warned Against Doing Jism: 'Even My Manager Thought I’d Gone Crazy'

Bipasha Basu shares why she accepted Jism despite people advising against it. The film boosted her career and marked John Abraham’s debut.

Bipasha Basu considers Jism to be a defining moment in her Bollywood career. However, what many may not know is that the actress was advised against taking up the project due to its bold and adult content. In a recent interaction with Times Now, Bipasha revealed that several people discouraged her from doing the film.

“Jism was the time when I was at my peak, and everyone told me, ‘You cannot do an adult content film. You are like the typical Hindi heroine who is now established in people’s hearts.’ But I just liked the story so much. I said I’ll go ahead and do it. Everybody stopped me from doing it. My manager thought I had gone crazy,” Bipasha shared.

Directed by Amit Saxena, Jism starred Bipasha Basu and marked the acting debut of John Abraham. Released in 2003, the film was a surprise box office success and proved to be a breakthrough for both lead actors, significantly boosting their careers in Bollywood.

Bipasha’s Break from Films and Possible Comeback
Bipasha Basu Singh has not appeared in a film since 2015. Her last role was in the web series Dangerous. In a recent interview, the actress hinted at making a return to acting, sharing her intention to now focus on digital platforms and web shows.

Personal Life

Bipasha and her husband, Karan Singh Grover, welcomed their first child, a daughter, on November 12, 2022—six years after their wedding. The couple named her Devi Basu Singh Grover. Announcing the birth on Instagram, Bipasha wrote:
