New Delhi: After a lengthy hiatus, Karan Johar directed ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, which starred Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh. The film also has a new version of the classic song ‘Jhumka Gira Re’ on its soundtrack. Asha Bhosle, the legend who sang the original version of the song, has spoken out against the new version. She claims that the music producers and performers are unable to come up with original material, therefore they are stuck covering old songs instead.

Asha Bhosle noted saying that classic songs like "Jhumka Gira Re" have the ideal blend of words, vocals, and instrumentation. The singer was recently interviewed by India Today, where she addressed the continuous practice of remixing and remaking classic hits.

‘Jhumka Gira Re’, for the uninitiated, is a song from the film ‘Mera Saaya’, released in 1966. Music director Madan Mohan composed the song, while Raja Mehdi Ali Khan wrote the lyrics.

Asha Bhosle said, "Zamana badal jaata hai. Fast badal raha hai. Aur badlega. You can't stop it. The music directors don't have the ability to compose original songs. Hence, they recreate old songs. For instance, aaj 'Jhumka Gira Re' kitna chal raha hai. It has come in new film. It's such an old song."

She continued by saying that songwriters used to put in more effort in old songs. She said, “When the lyricist would sit down to compose a song, the music director would say, ‘Yeh word nahin chahiye mujhe. Yeh chahiye’. Bade bade writer ke saath music director lad jaate the.”

Talking about ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’, the film saw a huge success after its release. The film's cast also includes Jaya Bachchan, Dharmendra, and Shabana Azmi, in addition to Alia and Ranveer in the key parts. The film's earnings have already broken the 100-crore barrier in India.
