When Anushka Sharma Recalled Conversations With Her Father While He Fought In Kargil

Anushka Sharma recently expressed her gratitude to the Indian Armed Forces and their families on Instagram for their sacrifices during the current India-Pakistan tensions.

Anushka Sharma recently expressed her gratitude on Instagram to the Indian Armed Forces and their families on Instagram for their sacrifices during the current India-Pakistan tensions. As the daughter of retired Colonel Ajay Kumar Sharma, a veteran who served in critical operations like Operation Bluestar and the Kargil War, Anushka’s message carried a deeply personal resonance.

Anushka Sharma said her father fought in several wars

Anushka once said her father, now retired, took part in every war since 1982, including Operation Bluestar and the Kargil War. She was 11 when he went to Kargil, and while she didn’t fully understand the situation, she talked to him about school and her crushes. Still, she felt scared because her mother kept the TV on all the time to follow the war news.

When asked by ETimes in 2012 if it was emotionally difficult having a father who fought in wars, Anushka Sharma said, "Kargil was a tough one. I was too young at that time but I was scared of seeing my mother. She would always have the news channel switched on throughout the day and would get upset when casualties were announced. When my dad called, he could not say much but I would go on talking about my school, boyfriends and everything else without realising that he was fighting a war."

During the conversation, Anushka shared that she is "extremely close" to her father and feels she can talk to him about things she can't with anyone else. She also expressed, "I take pride in saying that I am an army officer’s daughter even more than being an actor."

After India intercepted missiles from Pakistan on May 8, Anushka Sharma took to her Instagram Stories and wrote, “Eternally grateful to our Indian Armed Forces for protecting us through these times like the heroes that they are. Heartfelt gratitude to the sacrifices they and their families have made. Jai Hind."

Anushka Sharma's next project

Anushka Sharma is currently working on 'Chakda Xpress', a biopic based on former Indian women's cricket team captain Jhulan Goswami. The film follows Jhulan’s inspiring journey to becoming one of the world’s top fast bowlers. Set to release on Netflix, the movie has officially gone into production.
