New Delhi: Nana Patekar was on the news on Thursday after a video of the veteran actor smacking a fan went viral. Now filmmaker Anil Sharma has clarified that the video was part of a scene from his upcoming film ‘Journey.’

The video that was doing the rounds on social media, showed Nana Patekar wearing a check suit and a hat, getting ready to shoot a scene when a fan came close to him and tried to click a selfie. Nana Patekar got angry and smacked the fan on the back of his head. A man standing close to the actor then grabbed the man by his neck and took him away.

The video is from Varanasi where the actor is shooting for Anil Sharma’s 'Journey'. Director Anil Sharma told PTI that somebody shared a portion of a scene from 'Journey' without context.

"He (Patekar) has not slapped anyone, it is a shot from our film. People have a problem making a fuss out of nothing... We are currently filming in Benaras for the film, 'Journey'," Anil Sharma told PTI.

"Patekar's character has dementia in the film. His mind is disturbed and a guy comes to click picture with him. There are so many people around us, who are here to watch the shoot. I think someone clicked this particular portion, which is actually one of the scenes from the film," he added.

Earlier after the video went viral, netizens were divided with a few supporting the actor while others criticised the actor for smacking the fan. Nana's supporters backed him, arguing that the selfie-taker was disrupting the set and the actor had every right to be furious.

Nana Patekar was last seen in Vivek Agnihotri's 'The Vaccine War'.

Nana Patekar will soon make his OTT debut with 'Laal Batti', a political thriller directed by Prakash Jha.
