Amber Heard Expresses Her 'Disappointment' After Losing Defamation Case Against Ex-Husband Johnny Depp
The jury found that Heard's statements about her marriage were "false" and she acted with "actual malice". Johnny Depp was awarded total compensation of $15 million.
New Delhi: After the Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard trial becoming the talk of the town, the jury finally gave their verdict in favour of the 'Pirates Of The Caribbean' actor, on Tuesday. The jury found that Heard's statements about her marriage were "false" and she acted with "actual malice". Johnny Depp was awarded total compensation of $15 million ($10m in compensatory damages and $5m in punitive damages).
Amber Heard took to her Instagram to express her 'disappointment' over the jury's verdict. She penned a long note which read as, "The disappointment I feel today is beyond words. I'm heartbroken that the mountain of evidence was still not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence and sway of my ex-husband.
I'm even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback. It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously.
I believe Johnny's attorneys succeeded in getting the jury to overlook the key issue of Freedom of Speech and ignore evidence that was so conclusive that we won in the UK.
I'm sad I lost this case. But I am sadder still that I seem to have lost a right I thought I had as an American - to speak freely and openly."

The actor expressed his belief in the fact that 'truth always prevails' and being hopeful that 'the best is yet to come and a new chapter has finally begun'.
