Aamir Khan Confirms Superhero Film With Lokesh Kanagaraj, Shoot To Begin In 2026

Aamir Khan has revealed exciting details about his upcoming superhero film with Lokesh Kanagaraj, set to begin filming in late 2026. Here’s what he shared while promoting Sitaare Zameen Par.

Aamir Khan has never been one to casually drop details about his upcoming films, especially ones as high-profile as his next. But in a refreshing change, the actor opened up during a recent interview and offered a substantial update on his highly-anticipated collaboration with Tamil filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj.

In an interaction with Just Too Filmy, the 'Lagaan' star finally confirmed the project. “Lokesh and I are doing a film together. Ye film agle saal banegi. He is right now going to shoot Kaithi. So, next year, August-September we will start,” Aamir stated, revealing that the superhero film is set to go on floors in the latter half of 2026.

The actor also shed light on the genre and scale of the film, which has been kept under wraps for quite some time. “Lokesh and I are doing a film together. It’s a superhero film — a big-scale action outing. The film will begin in the second half of 2026. We have both signed it. I cannot reveal anything further,” he said during an earlier closed-door press interaction.

Fans of both cinema heavyweights have been buzzing ever since the announcement. Known for gritty action-packed narratives in films like 'Kaithi', 'Master', and 'Vikram', Lokesh Kanagaraj's sensibilities combined with Aamir's knack for pushing cinematic boundaries make this an eagerly awaited pairing.

Sitaare Zameen Par to Follow Unconventional Release Plan

While the superhero project is still some time away, Aamir is currently focusing on his upcoming film 'Sitaare Zameen Pa'r. The movie, which reportedly touches on themes close to the actor’s heart, will have a unique release strategy tailored to modern audience behavior.

A report by Pinkvilla notes that the film will initially release on around 1,250 screens. What makes the strategy interesting is its flexible model: screen count will be increased dynamically depending on the real-time response from viewers.

A source familiar with the plan told the publication, “The makers were exploring several release ideas, and the plan at the moment is to bring the film on approximately 1250 screens. Aamir Khan is confident of the film, and is well aware about the change in audience dynamics, which is the reason why he is looking at a longer game than a shorter one."

With one film near release and another major one in pre-production, Aamir Khan seems to be navigating his cinematic journey with the same calculated precision that has defined his career for decades.
