West Bengal: District Nodal Election Officer in charge of EVMs, VVPATs reportedly goes missing

Darjeeling: In West Bengal’s Nadia district, the Nodal Election Officer who was in charge of the EVMs and VVPATs reportedly went missing on Thursday. Arnab Roy was at Bipradas Choudhury Polytechnic College for his poll duty on Thursday during the second phase of Lok Sabha elections 2019. It is reported that after lunch, Roy went untraceable. He is in charge of the EVMs and VVPATs. It is said that the Election commission got information about missing election official and search is going on to find the official. Police have begun an investigation in the case. The driver of the officer is being questioned where he left the officer last night. In the state, there were reports of the electronic voting machines being damaged in West Bengal. The highest polling of 82.76 per cent was recorded in Jalpaiguri (SC) seat, 73.31 per cent in Raigunj seat and 72.14 per cent in Darjeeling seat. At least 30 people were arrested as a preventive measure while another three were nabbed for specific reasons. Eight FIRs were lodged in different cases. The EC had deployed 194 companies of central forces to cover 80 per cent of the over 5,000 booths in the three Lok Sabha constituencies.
