UP Election Phase 1 Voting Ends: First phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections which were held across 58 assembly constituencies in 11 districts concluded peacefully on Thursday evening with around 60 per cent voter turnout.
According to the Election Commission, polling ended at 6 pm but those who were already in the queue were allowed to exercise their franchise. During the noon, there were some reports of technical snags in EVMs at some places, but voting was peaceful, EC officials told news agency PTI.

There were reports of a technical error in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) at some places that were being replaced by polling authorities as the reports came in.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party (SP) alleged that poor voters were not allowed to exercise their franchise in Dundukheda village in the Kairana assembly constituency. Responding to the same, Additional Chief Election Officer (ACEO) BD Ram Tiwari said the district magistrate concerned was asked to look into the matter.
Voters in Mathura braved a dense fog in the morning when the polling began but visibility improved as the day progressed.
State ministers whose fate will be decided in the first phase include Shrikant Sharma, Suresh Rana, Sandeep Singh, Kapil Dev Agarwal, Atul Garg and Chowdhury Lakshmi Narain.

Over one lakh personnel of the Uttar Pradesh police and home guards besides 800 companies of the paramilitary were deployed for the first phase of assembly polls in western Uttar Pradesh.
Of these, 724 companies were for booth duty, 15 companies for strong-room duty, five companies for EVM security, 26 companies for quick response at police stations, 20 companies for inter-state barrier duty, 66 companies for law and order duty, and nine companies were attached with flying squad team, the Election Commission said.

Of the total 403 seats in UP assembly, voting for 58 seats of phase I of the seven-phase elections concluded today.
The fate of as many as 634 candidates is in the fray, out of which 73 of them are women. As many as 2.28 crore voters (1.04 of them female) will exercise their franchise at 26,027 polling booths across 10,853 polling stations in 11 districts.
