Narendra Modi to be sworn in as 16th Prime Minister at Rashtrapati Bhavan on May 30

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be sworn in as the new Prime Minister of the country on May 30 at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

New Delhi: As Union Cabinet has tendered resignation and India is all set to have its 17 Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be sworn in as the new Prime Minister of the country on May 30 at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The swearing-in ceremony will start at 7 pm, the Rashtrapati Bhawan informed on Sunday. “The President will administer the oath of Office and secrecy to the Prime Minister and other members of Union Council of Ministers on 30.05.2019 at 07.00 pm,” a communique from the Rashtrapati Bhavan said. Modi was appointed as the Prime Minister by President Ram Nath Kovind for a second term after his name was endorsed at a meeting of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) parliamentary party on Saturday, a day after the Union Cabinet dissolved the 16th Lok Sabha. As the NDA is gearing up for the swearing-in ceremony, reportedly party members are in the process of inviting various global dignitaries for the event which is touted to be on a larger scale compared to that of 2014 one. World leaders such as US President Donald Trump, Russia President Vladimir Putin, China President Xi Jinping are likely to be in attendance for the swearing-in ceremony. Various reports suggest that Pakistan may not be invited for the event. However, after Imran Khan’s congratulatory message on Twitter and phone call to PM Modi earlier in the day, the neighboring country could be a part of the ceremony. There is no official confirmation about the guest list by the party. Apart from this, leaders of the P5 countries including US, Russia, UK, France and China are also likely to be invited. Leaders from Japan, Germany and Israel, as well as Saudi Arabia and the UAE may also be sent invitations. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA secured 353 out of the 542 seats in the General Elections while the primary Opposition party, the Congress, secured only 52 seats. It is not even enough for it to claim the post of the Leader of Opposition in the new House.
