Mizoram Election: Voting To Be Held Again At A Polling Booth In Aizawl South 3 On Nov 10

The Mizoram assembly elections were held peacefully on Tuesday, with over 77% of the 8.57 lakh electors voting.

New Delhi: Voting will be held again in one polling station in Mizoram on Friday, the Election Commission said. The repolling in a polling station in Aizawl South-III constituency was necessitated as the voting personnel did not clear the mock poll drill due to "technical ground" ahead of polling on Tuesday, EC said.

Voting in Muallungthu polling station will take place from 7am to 4pm on November 10.

A total of 1,084 electors, including 548 female voters, are eligible to exercise their franchise in the polling station, the news agency PTI reported citing officials.

The Mizoram assembly elections were held peacefully on Tuesday, with over 77 per cent of the 8.57 lakh electors voting.

According to PTI, the voting percentage is likely to increase, as final reports are yet to come from far-flung districts.

In the 2018 election, Mizoram saw nearly 80 per cent voter turnout.

Serchhip had an 84.78 percent voter turnout, Mamit had an 84.23 per cent turnout, Hnahthial had an 84.16 percent turnout, Kolasib had an 82.77 per cent turnout, and Khawazawl had an 82.39 per cent turnout. The voting for the 40-member state assembly began at 7am.

According to an Election Commission release, the Commission's advance planning and extensive monitoring by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goel had earlier ensured "free, fair, and largely peaceful conduct of elections in Mizoram and Chhattisgarh."

Mizo National Front, Indian National Congress, and Zoram People's Movement have all fielded candidates for all 40 seats, while the BJP has fielded 23.

In Mizoram, Chief Minister Zoramthanga, the leader of the Mizo National Front, is running for re-election from Aizawl East - I, according to PTI.

Meanwhile, Lalduhoma, the leader of the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) and the party's chief ministerial candidate, is running from Serchhip.

The Mizo National Front (MNF) won 26 seats in the 2018 assembly elections with a vote share of 37.8 per cent, deposing Congress.
