Bageshwar DM Hikes 8 Km To Inspect Farthest Polling Booth In Uttarakhand - WATCH

Bageshwar District Magistrate (DM) Anuradha Pal undertook an eight-kilometer trek to visit and take stock of the preparations at the remotest polling booth in the state's Borbalda district.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Uttarakhand's Bageshwar District Magistrate (DM) Anuradha Pal undertook an eight-kilometer trek to visit and take stock of the preparations at the remotest polling booth in the state's Borbalda district ahead of the general elections, news agency PTI reported on Saturday. It is to be noted that the state will go to polls in a single phase on April 19. The polls are being conducted by the Elections Commission of India (ECI), all five seats of Uttarakhand will hold elections in the first phase of the polling schedule.

Highlighting the challenges of reaching the farthest polling booth in the state, Pal stated, "There was no route to reach there (Borbalda) until last year. However, even after the road has been built now, we still have to walk 8 kilometers to reach the exact location. I have inspected that booth in terms of the availability of basic facilities like washrooms, water, electricity, and how many numbers of voters are there."

Earlier a similar initiative was taken by the Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar in June 2022. That time, Kumar had trekked about 18 kilometers to reach a remote voting station in the state's Dumak village located in the Chamoli district. The CEC had acknowledged the dedication of polling personnel and Election Commission staff who travel difficult paths to ensure organisation smooth elections, often for only a handful of votes.
