The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday said that Congress leader Supriya Shrinate and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Dilip Ghosh made personal attacks and so their election-related communications will be specially and additionally monitored by the Commission. The action came after BJP MP Dilip Ghosh and Congress leader Supriya Shrinate had made objectionable remark against West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and BJP Mandi candidate Kangana Ranaut respectively

In its order, which the poll body gave after the receipt of replies to notices issued to them over violation of Model Code of Conduct, the ECI said it is convinced that both the leaders made a personal attack and thus violated the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct.

"They have been warned to remain careful in public utterances during the Model Code of Conduct period," said the ECI in its order adding that their election-related communications will be specially and additionally monitored by the Commission.

Dilip Ghosh's Objectionable Remark Against Mamata Banerjee

During an election campaign trail last week in Bengal's Durgapur, Ghosh said that Mamata Banerjee "needs to fix the identity of her father".

"When she goes to Goa, she says she is the daughter of Goa. When she goes to Tripura, she says she is the daughter of Tripura. First, fix the identity of your father. It’s not good to be everyone’s daughter," Ghosh said after which party president JP Nadda sought clarification from him.
