Khatima Election Result 2022: Outgoing Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami lost from the Khatima seat in the state assembly elections to Congress’ Bhuvan Chandra Kapri. Dhami was one of the leading probables for the top office in Uttarakhand.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), however, is all set to secure a second consecutive term in office in Uttarakhand.  The BJP appears on way to making history by winning two successive assembly elections in the state as it had never happened in its 21-year history.

Dhami, who was elected as the 11th chief minister of the hill state, is currently the vice-president of the BJP’s Uttarakhand unit.

Dhami took over as the chief minister after Tirath Singh Rawat resigned from the post following delay over his election to the Uttarakhand Assembly.

He is a two time MLA from Khatima constituency in Udham Singh Nagar district.

Dhami was elected as an MLA from Khatima constituency first in 2012 and then in 2017.

Sitting CM Never Wins Assembly Polls In Uttarakhand:

It’s, however, a tradition of sorts in Uttarakhand, that the sitting chief minister does not win.

Congress veteran and former chief minister Harish Rawat had earlier in 2017 tried his luck from two seats. He, however, was on the losing side on both seats.

Uttarakhand was formed on November 9, 2000, as the country’s  27th state when it was carved out of Uttar Pradesh.

The hill state has since then alternatively voted for the Congress and the BJP.

The ABP News-CVoter Exit Poll for Uttarakhand, which underwent polling in a single phase on February 14, had predicted 26 to 32 seats for the BJP, while 32 to 38 seats were estimated for the grand old party.

In terms of vote share, the BJP was projected to grab 40.8% vote share while the predicted percentage was 39.3% for the Congress.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was estimated to secure 8.7% vote share.
