Karnataka Congress president DK Shivakumar broke down while expressing happiness over his party's comfortable victory in the Karnataka State Assembly Elections. He thanked the cadres for their endless support. The counting of votes for the Karnataka Assembly Elections is underway and Congress is emerging as the single largest party in the state. He thanked voters for believing in his party and giving it a chance. 






He further thanked Congress leader Sonia Gandhi for her support by saying, "I can't forget Sonia Gandhi visiting me after the "BJP people" jailed me."






While talking to the reporters, he said that he had told the Gandhi family and AICC chief Kharge that he will deliver Karnataka.


He thanked the citizens of Karnataka for their faith in the grand old party.






The electoral fortunes of top leaders -- Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai of the BJP, Congress heavyweights Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar, and JD(S)' HD Kumaraswamy, among many others will be known today.


Record Turnout


Karnataka saw peaceful voting this year for 224 assembly seats and the voter turnout stood at 73.19 per cent which surpassed the record of 2018 viz. 72.36 per cent. In total, 737 theme-based and ethnic-model polling stations were set up, reported news agency ANI. At 239 polling stations that were welcomed by PwD staff. As a part of the initiative taken by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to inspire the youth voters to participate in the festival of democracy, 286 polling stations were set up and were being run by the youngest staff available. More than 11.71 lakh voters registered in the state to vote for the first time ever.


Significant State elections ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha Polls


This State Assembly Elections election held a lot of significance as it was held almost a year before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. This election might prove to be a deciding factor for the general elections next year. The state witnessed heavy campaigning from the BJP as it is the only state in South India where BJP is still in power.
