As Congress sweeps Karnataka with huge margin, the party leaders celebrated the victory with 'Nandini' dairy brand sweets at Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committe office in Bengaluru. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar, senior leaders Siddaramaiah, and KC Venugopal, spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala held a press conference in a show of strength. Towards the end of the press conference, Kharge distributed the sweets of 'Nandini' brand which was one of the issues during the campaigning.

Karnataka Milk Federation's flagship brand, Nandini  was made a campaign flashpoint by Congress as the fears grew that it might be taken over by Gujarat's 'Amul' dairy brand.

The brand was supported by Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and DK Shivakumar who visited Nandini stores during the campigining with Rahul Gandhi terming the brand as "best".

The BJP, which has now been unseated from the state, also tried to woo the voters by promising half-litre of Nandini milk everyday to all the families below poverty line

Addressing the press conference today, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said in a democracy, political parties are bound to listen to the people and "bow the heads" before the voters who "show the right path."

It's not a victory of anyone, it's a victory of the people of the state. They decided and chose. That's why we got 136 seats - huge after 36 years," he said.

Speaking on the party's performance, Kharge termed it a "big victory" and said, "Those who wanted to make 'Congress Mukt Bharat' spoke many things; today the truth is BJP Mukt Dakshin Bharat."
