Amid the ongoing row against the Congress party over an objectionable post against the actress-turned-politician, Kangana Ranaut, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu called her the "daughter of Himachal". According to news agency ANI, CM Sukhu said that the parents of the actor lived in Himachal and that her father was the General Secretary of Congress in Mandi.

"She [Kangana Ranaut] is the daughter of Himachal. Her parents live here. Her father was made the General Secretary of Congress in Mandi...," CM Sukhu told reporters in Shimla on Tuesday.

This comes after derogatory remarks posted by the handles of Supriya Shrinate and HS Ahir surfaced on social media which triggered a massive outrage and calls for action. The post featured a picture of Ranaut dressed in a corset top with an objectionable caption, which was widely shared on social media.

Shrinate posted a clarification and said, "Someone who had access to my meta accounts (FB and Insta) posted an absolutely disgusting and objectionable post, which has been taken down. Anyone who knows me will know I would never say that for a woman. However, a parody account that I have just discovered misusing my name is being run on Twitter (@Supriyaparody) which started the whole mischief, and is being reported.

Several BJP leaders have come out in support of the actress-turned-politician and criticised the Congress. Himachal Pradesh Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur stated that the BJP is working towards taking legal action against Congress and that it is the party’s "habit to insult women".

"...BJP is working towards taking legal action in this matter. It has become the Congress' habit to insult women--"Matru'Shakti'. The whole of Mandi and Himachal Pradesh is angry. Congress will have to pay for this," Thakur, told ANI on Tuesday.

The women's panel chief, Rekha Sharma, said, it was “very unfortunate” that a woman is using such derogatory language against another woman and that “NCW has taken it very seriously”. “We have written to the Election Commission to take stringent action against the party and the leader”, the panel said.

Ranaut has been fielded by the BJP to contest the Lok Sabha polls from the Mandi constituency in Himachal Pradesh.
