Haryana Crisis: New CM Nayab Saini May Face Crucial Floor Test Today To Prove Majority In House — 10 Points

Newly sworn-in Chief Minister of Haryana Nayab Singh Saini will prove the majority of his government on the floor of the Assembly today.

A new political crisis unfolded in Haryana on Tuesday which saw the sudden resignation of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and his entire cabinet. Khattar was replaced by Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nayab Singh Saini who took the oath as chief minister of Haryana hours after Khattar's resignation.

The crisis began in the state after Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala's Jannayak Janata Party decided to back out of the ruling alliance in the state.

Now, after forming the new government in the state, CM Saini will prove his majority on the floor of the house.

  1. On Tuesday, Saini said they had presented a letter of support of 48 MLAs to the governor ahead of the floor test on Wednesday.
  2. For the Wednesday session of the Haryana Assembly, Saini has asked Governor Bandaru Dattatreya to convene the proceedings of the House.
  3.  "We have asked the Speaker to conduct the floor test tomorrow at around 11 am, in the Vidhan Sabha. We have informed the Governor about the support of 48 MLAs..." said Nayab Singh Saini while speaking to news agency ANI.
  4. The 90-member Haryana Legislative Assembly has 41 members from the BJP while having the support of six of the seven independents and also the support of the only Haryana Lokhit Party MLA Gopal Kanda. The JJP has 10 legislators in the House while the main Opposition Congress has 30 and the Indian National Lok Dal has one MLA.
  5. In the first cabinet meeting chaired by Saini after taking the oath of office, he said that a resolution was adopted to thank the works done by the outgoing Khattar cabinet.
  6. Five MLAs also took oath as ministers along with Saini. Among them four are from BJP Kanwar Pal (Jagadhari), Mool Chand Sharma (Ballabhgarh), Jai Parkash Dalal (Loharu) and Banwari Lal (Bawal), and an Independent MLA Ranjit Singh Chautala.
  7. Former home minister and six-term MLA Anil Vij's name was also on the list of ministers to take oath, said Khattar, adding that he could not come. On being asked if Vij was upset, Khattar said, "Anil Vij is our senior colleague... He sometimes gets upset easily, but he becomes normal later.   In the past too, there have been many incidents when Vij got upset over something but later on, things were normal."
  8. Khattar also hinted that he might be fielded by the party in the Lok Sabha polls. Speaking to reporters, Khattar said that the party's top brass has told him that another responsibility will be given and that "it may be decided soon".
  9.  Meanwhile, former Haryana Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupiner Singh Hooda reacting to the entire episode claimed that the BJP-JJP had accepted their defeat before the polls.
  10. In a statement Hooda said, "It is clear from this decision that a failed coalition government was running in the state which had completely disillusioned the people. Therefore, the government had to change and the chief minister just before the elections."
