BJP Leaders Roaming Ward To Ward Even After 27 Years Of Rule: Kharge's Fresh Salvo Ahead Of Guj Polls

Speaking at a public rally at Dediapada in the tribal-dominated Narmada district on Sunday, Kharge said he comes from the "poorest of the poor and (belongs to) untouchable caste".

New Delhi: Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party during his press conference in Ahmedabad saying that even after 27 years of rule, Prime Minister, Union Home Minister and other party leaders are roaming ward to ward to ask for votes, reported news agency ANI.

“BJP's national leaders are roaming from ward to ward in Gujarat. Even after 27 years of rule, the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister and their other states' Chief Ministers are coming here and giving provocative speeches while misleading the people. There must be fear behind that,” Kharge said, quoted by the news agency.

“Instead of bringing change in the state, they (BJP) changed the CM, and three CMs were changed in six years. That means they (BJP govt) haven't done any work in the state,” he added.

The Gujarat elections are going to be the first litmus test after Kharge was elected as the Congress President. He was in the poll-bound state where elections are due next month a day earlier as well and targeted the Prime Minister in his rally.

Speaking at a public rally at Dediapada in the tribal-dominated Narmada district on Sunday, Kharge said he comes from the "poorest of the poor and (belongs to) untouchable caste".

"Modiji and (Union Home Minister Amit) Shah ask what Congress did in 70 years? Had we not done anything in 70 years, you would not have got democracy. And people like you who always claim to be poor.

"I am also poor. I am from the poorest of the poor. I come from the untouchable caste. At least people drink your tea. People do not even drink my tea," he said.

Kharge alleged that PM Modi was trying to gain sympathy by playing a victim card.

Elections in Gujarat are slated to take place in two phases, December 1 and 5, and the votes will be counted on December 8 along with Himachal Pradesh.
