As counting of votes for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi election begins, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has come out with a new slogan, "Acche honge paanch saal, Dilli mei to Kejriwal" (5 years will be good if Kejriwal is in Delhi). According to the exit polls, the AAP seems to be getting a majority. While the BJP, that has been controlling municipal bodies for 15 years is hopeful that the tide will turn in their favour after counting of votes conclude.


"I have full faith that people of Delhi will give us another chance," said Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party President Adesh Gupta to ABP News. 


"We will get more seats than what has been projected in the exit polls," he added refuting the exit polls.


The results for the MCD elections will be announced today after the counting of polled votes on all the 250 municipal wards. Any party that manages to bag 126 seats will win majority and gain the power of the civic body.


Meanwhile, preparations have started for the celebration of victory in the office of Aam Aadmi Party. The office has been decorated. Sound systems, chairs and balloons were installed at it office till late night. 


In the 2017 civic election, the BJP won 181 of the 270 wards. The AAP had won 48 wards and the Congress 27.


BJP ruled the MCD for 15 years, between 2007 and 2022 and won all three corporations (North, South and East) even after trifurcation in 2012.


Garbage collection and landfills emerged as one of the biggest issues in the fight between AAP and the BJP for the MCD elections.
