After the Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday clinched a clear majority in the Municipal Corporation election, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the verdict was a message for the whole country to do positive politics.
While addressing the party members at AAP headquarters here, Kejriwal said the people were fed up with the negative politics and will not tolerate that anymore.
"We don't believe in negative politics and don't do the politics of abusing one another. We had asked the vote in the name of good governance, better education system and healthcare and for the honest government, and the people have blessed us with their support," Kejriwal said. (IANS)
After the big win in the MCD, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal advised the winners from the AAP to refrain from being vain. "Bigger governments have fallen due to vanity. So, do not give in to this vice," he said.
After the Aam Aadmi Party's massive win in the MCD elections, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday sought "PM Narendra Modi's blessings to make the Union Territory a better place". With this victory, the AAP ended the BJP's 15-year rule in the civic body.
The AAP bagged 134 wards in the 250-seat Municipal Corporation of Delhi while the BJP could win only 104 seats. The Congress came in a distant third managing to secure only 9 seats.
"I want to take PM Narendra Modi's blessings as well for Delhi's development," said Arvind Kejriwal during his speech.
Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia has thanked the people of Delhi for helping the AAP win the MCD polls 2022.
The AAP is set to dethrone BJP at the Delhi civic body as it inches closer to victory with 124 seats -- just two short of the majority mark of 126. Meanwhile, the BJP has secured 97 seats, the Congress seven and Independents three. The results witnessed a wild swinging race as the AAP and the BJP fought a close fight.

The counting for 250 wards of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has begun at 42 counting centres with 68 observers to oversee the counting in the national capital, the state electoral office said. The state electoral office has deployed engineers to look into technical issues of electronic voting machine (EVM) malfunctioning. There are total 1,349 candidates in fray with exit polls predicting a big victory for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The BJP has been in power for past 15 years in the MCD and it ran a high-pitched campaign as senior party leaders campaigned in the civic body elections.
Tight security arrangements have been put in place for the counting of the votes polled in the Delhi municipal elections. According to news agency PTI, twenty companies of paramilitary personnel and over 10,000 officers of Delhi Police have been deployed at the 42 centres where counting of the votes for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi will be held. Counting of votes will begin at 8 am on Wednesday, December 7. Heavy deployment of police personnel has also been made outside the offices of political parties. Authorities are all geared up for the counting of votes as 42 centres have been set up for the exercise which will begin at 8 am amid tight security. The run-up to the polls saw a fierce battle between the ruling BJP and the AAP which has been predicted as the winner by exit polls.
Delhi recorded a voter turnout of 50.48 per cent in the high-stakes municipal polls held on December 4, results of which are likely to have ramifications beyond the national capital.
Both the AAP and the BJP have exuded confidence that they will emerge victorious in the polls while the Congress is seeking to regain lost turf.
In the 2017 civic election, the BJP won 181 of the 272 wards. Polling could not be held on two seats due to the death of candidates. The AAP had won 48 wards and the Congress 27. The voting percentage that year was around 53 per cent.
There are 250 wards in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and 1,349 candidates are in the fray in this election. Votes will be counted on December 7.
This is the first civic election after the fresh delimitation exercise, and the poll was held days after the first phase of the Gujarat assembly elections, and a day ahead of its second phase.
Authorities had set up 13,638 polling stations across Delhi for the exercise.
This was also the first civic polls held in the national capital after the February 2020 riots in Delhi, and according to data shared by officials, 3,360 booths, spanning 493 locations, were identified in critical or sensitive categories.
MCD Exit Poll Results 2022
According to poll of exit polls, the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is likely to sweep the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) election. Most exit polls have predicted that the ruling party in Delhi would bag over 145 of the 250 wards in the MCD polls. This was the first civic election in Delhi after the fresh delimitation exercise.
According to an exit poll by Aaj Tak, AAP may get 149-171 wards. Another exit poll by Times Now shows Arvind Kejriwal's party getting anywhere between 146 and 156 wards.
A victory in the MCD polls will not only cement AAP's position in Delhi but will also give the party confidence to take forward its national ambitions and emerge as a serious contender to the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Garbage collection and landfills emerged as one of the biggest issues in the fight between AAP and the BJP.
The high-voltage election campaign saw BJP deploying its top leaders, including national president JP Nadda, 19 Union ministers like Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari and Piyush Goyal and chief ministers of six states.
