New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday released its fifth list of 12 candidates for the upcoming Chhattisgarh Assembly elections.

In its fifth list, the party has fielded candidates including Neelam Thakur from Ramanuganj seat, Rakesh Yadav from Beltara, Anubhav Tiwari from Sakti, Sanjay Yadav from Mahasamund, Vijay Jha from Rajpur South, Veer Verma from Saja.

So far, AAP has announced 57 candidates for the upcoming polls to the 90-seat assembly. It has declared 10 names in the first list, 12 names in the second, 11 names in the third list, and 12 names in the fourth list.

Recently, AAP, led by its national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, announced its list of star campaigners for the state polls. The list featured the names of 37 leaders including CM Kejriwal and his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann, among others.

AAP, which has its government in Delhi and Goa, is trying to make inroads in Chhattisgarh and other states where elections are scheduled next month. While the primary contest in Chhattisgarh is between BJP and Congress, AAP is likely to cause damage in vote shares.

Notably, the party had tried its luck for the first time in the previous assembly elections in Chhattisgarh in 2018. It had fielded candidates in 85 seats but failed to open its account in the state. Congress won 68 seats, garnering a vote share of 43.9 per cent, while, the BJP managed to win 15 seats, gathering a vote share of 33.6 per cent.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the BJP released its list of 40 star campaigners for the second phase of the Chhattisgarh polls.

The state elections will be held in two phases on November 7 and 17. The results will be announced on December 3.
