The Congress on Friday evening released the second list of candidates for the Telangana polls. The list finally confirmed former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin's ticket from his preferred seat — Jubilee Hills. BJP turncoat and former MLA Yennam Srinivas Reddy, who joined Congress last month has been fielded from Mahbubnagar.

Azharuddin,  the working president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee, had earlier in an interview with Deccan Chronicle revealed that he would prefer to fight for the Jubilee Hills constituency. The former Lok Sabha MP from UP's Moradabad said that the seat is a cosmopolitan constituency and would continue to work for the area even if he is denied a ticket.

Apart from Azharuddin, 44 others were named in the second list. Former Lok Sabha MP Madhu Goud Yaskhi has been handed the Lal Bahadur Nagar ticket. The other candidates include former MLA Konda Surekha (Warangal East); Kandi Srinivas Reddy (Adilabad), who was booked this month for violation of the model code of conduct, and TPCC general secretary Poojala Harikrishna (Siddipet).

Last week, the Congress released its first list for the Telangana elections, naming 55 candidates. Telangana Congress president Revanth Reddy was named in that list and he will contest the Kodangal seat. The BJP has, so far, released the names of 52 candidates for the Telangana polls. The saffron party has fielded Lok Sabha MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar from the Karimnagar assembly seat and sitting MLA T Raja Singh from Goshamahal.

Congress is hoping to wrest power from the ruling BRS in Telangana, in what is likely to be a four-cornered contest. The other major parties in the fray are Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM and the BJP led by G Kishan Reddy. The 120-seat assembly goes to polls on November 30.
