Not Only BJP But Entire Govt Machinery In Fray Against SP Candidate In Ghosi Bypoll: Akhilesh Yadav

Bypolls to assembly 7 seats in 6 states are being held. They are Ghosi (UP), Puthuppally (Kerala), Dhupguri (Bengal), Bageshwar (Uttarakhand), Dumri (Jharkhand), and Boxanagar and Dhanpur (Tripura).

Akhilesh Yadav has urged the Election Commission to ensure free and fair polls.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday said that not only the BJP but the 'entire government machinery' is in the field against his party's candidate for the Ghosi assembly seat by-election. Notably, seven assembly seats in six states are undergoing bypolls today which is the first direct fight between the BJP-led NDA and the opposition's I.N.D.I.A bloc. The former UP CM took to X, formerly Twitter, and said, "Election Commission, please see that not only the BJP candidate but also the government machinery is in the fray against SP in the by-election being held in Ghosi Assembly."

The seats undergoing voting are Ghosi in Uttar Pradesh, Dhupguri in West Bengal, Dhanpur and Boxanagar in Tripura, Dumri in Jharkhand, Puthuppally in Kerala and Bageshwar in Uttarakhand.

This is the first time the newly formed "united" Opposition bloc and the BJP are facing off in an electoral battle and is likely to be a precursor to next year's Lok Sabha polls. Bypolls to assembly seven assembly seats in six states are being held. They are Ghosi (UP), Puthuppally (Kerala), Dhupguri (Bengal), Bageshwar (Uttarakhand), Dumri (Jharkhand), and Boxanagar and Dhanpur (Tripura).

Meanwhile, Union minister and Apna Dal (Sonelal) president Anupriya Patel said that the Opposition bloc has no existence in Uttar Pradesh and its candidate does not stand a chance in an electoral contest in the state against the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA). "Whenever the question of NDA versus INDIA arises, at least in Uttar Pradesh, INDIA's candidates will not be able to last in front of the NDA," Patel was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
