Background

Tripura West: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Sankar Prasad Datta from Communist Party of India (CPM) won the elections by a margin of 503486 votes. The polling / voting in Tripura West constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 1 on 11 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Rebati Tripura and Congress Party#s Subal bhowmick

Tripura West 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Communist Party of India (Marxist) won 2 out of the 2 parliamentary seat with 64 percent vote share while the Indian National Congress managed to win just seats with a 15.2 percent vote share.

Voter turnout in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections in Tripura West Lok Sabha Lok Sabha constituency. The total voter turnout was 85.92% Lok Sabha percent with 85.94% Lok Sabha percent male voters turning out to cast their votes. Meanwhile, 85.90% Lok Sabha percent of the women voters cast their votes and 12699 Lok Sabha voters pressed on the NOTA

Out of the 13 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Tripura West, 12 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Sankar Prasad Datta of the Communist Party of India as he defeated Arunoday Saha by a margin of 503486 votes.

  • 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, CPM candidate Khagen Das attained 496843 votes and INC's Nirmala Dasgupta bagged 112207 votes.
  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha poll, Communist Party of India candidate defated All India Trinamool Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, CPM candidate Samar Chowdhury attained 372553 votes and AITC's Sudhir Ranjan Majumdar bagged 174154 votes.
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 18876 votes. Here, Communist Party of India leader Samar Choudhury attained 347970 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Radhika Ranjan Gupta bagged 329094 votes
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 80811 votes CPM candidate Badal Choudhury had got 346457 while INC got Ashok Kumar Bhattacharyya votes.
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defated Communist Party of India candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Santosh Mohan Deo attained 464743 votes and CPM's Manik Sarkar bagged 35759 votes.
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated Communist Party of India candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Santosh Mohan Dev attained 410904 votes and CPM's Manik Sarkar bagged 244749 votes.
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Communist Party of India and Indian National Congress here Communist Party of India candidate defeated his Indian National Congress counterpart with a difference of 3520 votes.
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 55345 votes CPM candidate Ajoy Biswas had got 198335 while INC(I) got Ashok Kr. Bhattacharya votes.

  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated CPM candidate with a difference of 33822 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader J. K. Choudhury attained 125965 votes and CPM candidate B. C. Dutta bagged 92143 votes
  • 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate defeated INC candidate with a difference of 16989 votes. Here, Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Birendra Chandra Dutta attained 86084 votes and INC candidate Sukhamoy Sen Gupta bagged 69095 votes
