Background

Tirunelveli: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Prabakaran.K.R.P from All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (ADMK) won the elections by a margin of 126099 votes. The polling / voting in Tirunelveli constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 2 on 18 April. The major contest is between All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam#s P. H. Paul Manoj Pandian and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam#s Gnanadraviyam

Tirunelveli 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam won 37 out of the 39 parliamentary seat with 44.3 percent vote share while the Bharatiya Janata Party managed to win just 1 seats with a 5.5 percent vote share.

Out of the 27 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Tirunelveli, 25 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Prabakaran.K.R.P of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam as he defeated Devadasa Sundaram by a margin of 126099 votes.

  • 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Dhanuskodi Athithan, R. attained 370127 votes and ADMK's Amirtha Ganesan, R. bagged 203052 votes.
  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate defeated Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate with a difference of 26494 votes. Here, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Pandian, P.H. attained 249975 votes and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate Geetha Jeevan, P. bagged 223481 votes
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam here All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate defeated his Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam counterpart with a difference of 6904 votes.
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha poll, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate defated All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in one-sided contest. Here, DMK candidate Sivaprakasam D.S.A. attained 295001 votes and ADMK's Rajaselvam A.R bagged 176721 votes.
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha poll, ADK candidate defated Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in one-sided contest. Here, ADK candidate Janarthanan M.R. attained 351048 votes and DMK's Kandasamy K.P. bagged 197456 votes.
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha poll, ADK candidate defated Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in one-sided contest. Here, ADK candidate Janartanan attained 394444 votes and DMK's D.S.A. Sivaprakasam bagged 203309 votes.
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, ADK candidate had defeated Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate by a margin of 85946 votes ADK candidate M.R. Janardhanan had got 296897 while DMK got D.S.A. Sivaprakasam votes.
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate had defeated ADK candidate by a margin of 59962 votes DMK candidate Sivaprakasam D.S.A. had got 256626 while ADK got Arunachalam V. votes.
  • 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha poll, ADK candidate defated DMK candidate in one-sided contest. Here, ADK candidate Arunachalam V. attained 304562 votes and DMK's Samsuddin Alias Kathiravan K.M bagged 121869 votes.
  • 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha election, Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate had defeated SWA candidate by a margin of 59937 votes CPI candidate S. A, Muruganantham had got 214214 while SWA got S. Palaniswaminathan votes.
  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, SWA candidate defeated INC candidate with a difference of 41991 votes. Here, SWA leader S. Xavier attained 186864 votes and INC candidate A. P. C. Veerabahu bagged 144873 votes
  • 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated SWA candidate with a difference of 22019 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Muthiah attained 151822 votes and SWA candidate Mariadas Ruthnasamy bagged 129803 votes
