Background

Sultanpur: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Feroze Varun Gandhi from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won the elections by a margin of 178902 votes. The polling / voting in Sultanpur constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 6 on 12 May. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Maneka Gandhi and Bahujan Samaj Party#s Chandra Bhadra Singh

Sultanpur 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 71 out of the 80 parliamentary seat with 42.3 percent vote share while the Samajwadi Party managed to win just 5 seats with a 22.2 percent vote share.

Out of the 15 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Sultanpur, 12 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Feroze Varun Gandhi of the Bharatiya Janta Party as he defeated Pawan Pandey by a margin of 178902 votes.

  • 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha poll, Bahujan Samaj Party candidate defated Samajwadi Party candidate in one-sided contest. Here, BSP candidate Mohd. Tahir attained 261564 votes and SP's Shailendra Pratap Singh bagged 159754 votes.
  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Bahujan Samaj Party candidate defeated Samajwadi Party candidate with a difference of 14599 votes. Here, Bahujan Samaj Party leader Jai Bhadra Singh attained 173558 votes and Samajwadi Party candidate Ram Lakhan Verma bagged 158959 votes
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate had defeated Samajwadi Party candidate by a margin of 64448 votes BJP candidate Debendra Bahadur Rai had got 269951 while SP got Dr. Rita Bahuguna votes.
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha poll, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defated Samajwadi Party candidate in one-sided contest. Here, BJP candidate Devendra Bahadur Rai attained 238843 votes and SP's Kamruzama Faugi bagged 120559 votes.
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate had defeated JD candidate by a margin of 76956 votes BJP candidate Vishwanath Dass Shastri had got 137485 while JD got Ram Singh votes.
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha election, JD candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 38596 votes. Here, JD leader Ram Singh attained 177714 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Raj Karan Singh bagged 139118 votes
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated Independent candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Raj Karan Singh attained 219682 votes and IND's Mustakeem bagged 59625 votes.
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated JNP(S) candidate with a difference of 26081 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Giriraj Isngh attained 107241 votes and JNP(S) candidate Trubhuwan Nath Sanda bagged 81160 votes
  • 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha poll, BLD candidate defated INC candidate in one-sided contest. Here, BLD candidate Zulfikar Ullah attained 232330 votes and INC's Kedar Nath Singh bagged 66796 votes.
  • 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated BJS candidate by a margin of 62815 votes INC candidate Kedar Nath Singh had got 93946 while BJS got Ram Piarey Shukla votes.
  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated BJS candidate with a difference of 46010 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader G. Sahai attained 125453 votes and BJS candidate J. K. Agarwal bagged 79443 votes
  • 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated JS candidate with a difference of 32551 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Kunwar Krishna attained 87918 votes and JS candidate Bechu Singh bagged 55367 votes
  • 1957 Lok Sabha Elections: In Second Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated BJS candidate with a difference of 22883 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Govind Malviya attained 72227 votes and BJS candidate Bhaskar Pratap Sahi bagged 49344 votes
  • 1951 Lok Sabha Elections: In India's Very First Lok Sabha Polls, Indian National Congress candidate defeated BJS candidate with a difference of 49832 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader B. V. Keskar attained 74242 votes and BJS candidate Ram Sumiran bagged 24410 votes
