Background

Sivaganga: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Senthilnathan Pr from All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (ADMK) won the elections by a margin of 229385 votes. The polling / voting in Sivaganga constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 2 on 18 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s H. Raja and Congress Party#s Karti chidambaram

Sivaganga 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam won 37 out of the 39 parliamentary seat with 44.3 percent vote share while the Bharatiya Janata Party managed to win just 1 seats with a 5.5 percent vote share.

Out of the 27 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Sivaganga, 25 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Senthilnathan Pr of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam as he defeated Dhurai Raaj Subha by a margin of 229385 votes.

  • 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Chidambaram, P. attained 400393 votes and ADMK's Karuppiah. S P bagged 237668 votes.
  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate with a difference of 23811 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Sudarsana Natchiappan,E.M. attained 246078 votes and Bharatiya Janta Party candidate Raja.H. bagged 222267 votes
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, TMC(M) candidate had defeated All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate by a margin of 59141 votes TMC(M) candidate Chidambaram, P. had got 303854 while ADMK got Kalimuthu, K. votes.
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, TMC(M) candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, TMC(M) candidate Chidambaram P. attained 418774 votes and INC's Gowrishankaran M. bagged 171472 votes.
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defated Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Chindambaram P. attained 402029 votes and DMK's Kasinathan V. bagged 173432 votes.
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defated Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Chidambaram, P. attained 430290 votes and DMK's Ganesan, A. bagged 210738 votes.
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defated Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate P. Chidambaram attained 377160 votes and DMK's Tha Krutinan bagged 164627 votes.
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC(I) candidate Swaminathan R.V. attained 306748 votes and CPI's Pandian D. bagged 172187 votes.
  • 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, ADK candidate defated NCO candidate in one-sided contest. Here, ADK candidate P.Thiagarajan attained 338999 votes and NCO's R. Ramanathan Chettiar bagged 127466 votes.
  • 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha poll, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate defated NCO candidate in one-sided contest. Here, DMK candidate Tha Kiruttinan attained 273194 votes and NCO's Kannappa Valliappan bagged 173106 votes.
  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate had defeated INC candidate by a margin of 58217 votes DMK candidate Kiruttinan had got 225106 while INC got Subramanian votes.
