Background

Mumbai-North-East: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Kirit Somaiya from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won the elections by a margin of 317122 votes. The polling / voting in Mumbai-North-East constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 4 on 29 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Shri Manoj Kotak and Congress Party#s Sanjay nirupam

Mumbai-North-East 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 23 out of the 48 parliamentary seat with 27.3 percent vote share while the Shiv Sena managed to win just 18 seats with a 20.6 percent vote share.

Out of the 21 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Mumbai-North-East, 19 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Kirit Somaiya of the Bharatiya Janta Party as he defeated Sanjay Dina Patil by a margin of 317122 votes.

  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Bharatiya Janta Party and Indian National Congress here Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated his Indian National Congress counterpart with a difference of 7276 votes.
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate with a difference of 47452 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Gurudas Kamat attained 525911 votes and Bharatiya Janta Party candidate Pramod Mahajan bagged 478459 votes
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha poll, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, BJP candidate Pramod Mahajan attained 428825 votes and INC's Gurudas Kamat bagged 237262 votes.
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate by a margin of 59124 votes INC candidate Guradas Kamat had got 337660 while BJP got Mehta Jayawanti Navinchandra (W) votes.
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 71555 votes BJP candidate Mehta Jayawanti Navinchandra had got 414282 while INC got Gurudas Kamat votes.
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate by a margin of 96274 votes INC candidate Gurudas Kamat had got 273847 while BJP got Pramod Mahajan votes.
