Background

Mayiladuthurai: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharathi Mohan R.K from All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (ADMK) won the elections by a margin of 277050 votes. The polling / voting in Mayiladuthurai constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 2 on 18 April. The major contest is between All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam#s S. Asaimani and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam#s Ramalingam

Mayiladuthurai 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam won 37 out of the 39 parliamentary seat with 44.3 percent vote share while the Bharatiya Janata Party managed to win just 1 seats with a 5.5 percent vote share.

Voter turnout in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections in Mayiladuthurai Lok Sabha Lok Sabha constituency. The total voter turnout was 75.95% Lok Sabha percent with 74.12% Lok Sabha percent male voters turning out to cast their votes. Meanwhile, 77.81% Lok Sabha percent of the women voters cast their votes and 13181 Lok Sabha voters pressed on the NOTA

Out of the 19 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Mayiladuthurai, 17 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Bharathi Mohan R.K of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam as he defeated Hyder Ali.S by a margin of 277050 votes.

  • 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Mani Shankar Aiyar attained 411160 votes and ADMK's Manian. O S bagged 215469 votes.
  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated Pattali Makkal Katchi candidate with a difference of 40131 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Manishankar Aiyar attained 324384 votes and Pattali Makkal Katchi candidate Arul Mozhi P.D. bagged 284253 votes
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, TMC(M) candidate defeated Pattali Makkal Katchi candidate with a difference of 42456 votes. Here, TMC(M) leader Krishnamoorthy, K. attained 286098 votes and Pattali Makkal Katchi candidate Arulmozhi, P.D. bagged 243642 votes
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha poll, TMC(M) candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, TMC(M) candidate Rajendiran P.V attained 367778 votes and INC's Mani Shankar Aiyar bagged 214234 votes.
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Mani Shankar Aiyar attained 364598 votes and DMK's Kaliyanam Kuttalam P. bagged 202661 votes.
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Pakeer Mohamed Hajee E.S.M attained 352492 votes and DMK's Kalyanam, P. bagged 250547 votes.
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Pakeer Mohamed E.S.M. attained 335033 votes and DMK's Kalayanam P. bagged 215390 votes.
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated JNP candidate by a margin of 92005 votes INC(I) candidate Kudanthai Ramalingam N. had got 291625 while JNP got Govindasamy S. votes.
  • 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated NCO candidate by a margin of 74265 votes INC candidate Kudanthai Ramalingam N. had got 272202 while NCO got Govindasamy S. votes.
