Gorakhpur: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Adityanath from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won the elections by a margin of 312783 votes. The polling / voting in Gorakhpur constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 7 on 19 May. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Ravi Kishan and Samajwadi Party#s Ram Bhuwal Nishad

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 71 out of the 80 parliamentary seat with 42.3 percent vote share while the Samajwadi Party managed to win just 5 seats with a 22.2 percent vote share.

• 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Bharatiya Janta Party and Samajwadi Party here Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated his Samajwadi Party counterpart with a difference of 7339 votes.
• 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated Samajwadi Party candidate with a difference of 26206 votes. Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Adityanath attained 268428 votes and Samajwadi Party candidate Jamuna Prasad Nishad bagged 242222 votes
• 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate had defeated Samajwadi Party candidate by a margin of 56880 votes BJP candidate Avaidyanath had got 236369 while SP got Virender Pratap Shahi votes.
