Background

Gauhati: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bijoya Chakravarty from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won the elections by a margin of 315784 votes. The polling / voting in Gauhati constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 3 on 23 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Queen Ojha and Congress Party#s Smt. Bobbeeta sharma

Gauhati 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 7 out of the 14 parliamentary seat with 36.5 percent vote share while the All India United Democratic Front managed to win just 3 seats with a 14.8 percent vote share.

Voter turnout in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections in Gauhati Lok Sabha Lok Sabha constituency. The total voter turnout was 78.64% Lok Sabha percent with 79.50% Lok Sabha percent male voters turning out to cast their votes. Meanwhile, 77.74% Lok Sabha percent of the women voters cast their votes and 6720 Lok Sabha voters pressed on the NOTA

Out of the 18 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Gauhati, 16 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Bijoya Chakravarty of the Bharatiya Janta Party as he defeated Manash Borah by a margin of 315784 votes.

  • 2009 Lok Sabha Elections: In 15th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 11855 votes. Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Smt. Bijoya Chakravarty attained 496047 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Capt. Robin Bordoloi bagged 484192 votes
  • 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate by a margin of 61151 votes INC candidate Kirip Chaliha had got 353250 while BJP got Bhupen Hazarika votes.
  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 75238 votes BJP candidate Bijoya Chakravarty had got 384771 while INC got Bhubaneswar Kalita votes.
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Bhubaneswar Kalita attained 285482 votes and BJP's Manoranjan Goswami bagged 157309 votes.
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha poll, Asom Gana Parishad candidate defated Indian National Congress candidate in one-sided contest. Here, AGP candidate Prabin Chandra Sarmah attained 372833 votes and INC's Bhubaneswar Kalita bagged 258436 votes.
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated NAGP candidate with a difference of 44805 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Kirip Chaliha attained 169628 votes and NAGP candidate Asfaf Ali bagged 124823 votes
  • 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, BLD candidate defeated INC candidate with a difference of 36440 votes. Here, BLD leader Renuka Devi Barktaki attained 149255 votes and INC candidate Dinesh Chandra Goswami bagged 112815 votes
  • 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated CPI candidate by a margin of 96001 votes INC candidate Dinesh Chandra Goswami had got 140483 while CPI got Dhireswar Kalita votes.
  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Communist Party of India (Marxist) and INC here Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate defeated his INC counterpart with a difference of 1550 votes.
  • 1962 Lok Sabha Elections: In Third Lok Sabha election, PSP candidate defeated INC candidate with a difference of 32062 votes. Here, PSP leader Hem Borua attained 133812 votes and INC candidate Tirtha Nath Sarmah bagged 101750 votes
  • 1957 Lok Sabha Elections: In Second Lok Sabha election, PSP candidate defeated INC candidate with a difference of 46873 votes. Here, PSP leader Barua Hem attained 143497 votes and INC candidate Devendra Nath Sarma bagged 96624 votes
  • 1951 Lok Sabha Elections: In India's Very First Lok Sabha Polls, Indian National Congress candidate defeated SP candidate with a difference of 23569 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Rohini Kumar Chaudhury attained 96122 votes and SP candidate Lakshya Dhar Chaudhury bagged 72553 votes
