Background

Davanagere: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, G M Siddeshwara from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) won the elections by a margin of 17607 votes. The polling / voting in Davanagere constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 3 on 23 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Gowdar M Siddeshwara and Congress Party#s H.b. Manjappa

Davanagere 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 17 out of the 28 parliamentary seat with 43 percent vote share while the Indian National Congress managed to win just 9 seats with a 40.8 percent vote share.

  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated Indian National Congress candidate with a difference of 16269 votes. Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader G.Mallikarjunappa attained 398969 votes and Indian National Congress candidate Shamanur Shivashankarappa bagged 382700 votes
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate with a difference of 11332 votes. Here, Indian National Congress leader Shamanur Shiva Shankarappa attained 343704 votes and Bharatiya Janta Party candidate G.Mallikarjunappa bagged 332372 votes
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate had defeated JD candidate by a margin of 97087 votes BJP candidate G Mallikarjunappa had got 268962 while JD got S H Patel votes.
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Indian National Congress and Bharatiya Janta Party; here Indian National Congress candidate defeated his Bharatiya Janta Party counterpart with a difference of 455 votes.
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated JD candidate by a margin of 76120 votes INC candidate Channaiah Odeyar had got 369969 while JD got K.G.Maheswarappa votes.
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated JNP candidate by a margin of 65741 votes INC candidate Channaiah Odeyar had got 290003 while JNP got K. G. Maheswarappa votes.
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated JNP candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC(I) candidate T.V. Chandrashekharappa attained 238506 votes and JNP's Kondajji Basappa bagged 97510 votes.
  • 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated BLD candidate by a margin of 92122 votes INC candidate Kondajji Basappa had got 244200 while BLD got K. G. Maheswarappa votes.
