Bardhaman-Durgapur: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Dr. Mamtaz Sanghamita from All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) won the elections by a margin of 107331 votes. The polling / voting in Bardhaman-Durgapur constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 4 on 29 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s S. S. Ahluwaliya and All India Trinamool Congress#s Mamtaz Sanghamita

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, All India Trinamool Congress won 34 out of the 42 parliamentary seat with 39.8 percent vote share while the Communist Party of India (Marxist) managed to win just 2 seats with a 23 percent vote share.

পরে বিজেপির অন্যতম শীর্ষ নেতা তথা মধ্যপ্রদেশের ভারপ্রাপ্ত বিনয় সহস্রবুদ্ধে সংবাদমাধ্যমকে জানান, প্রজ্ঞা ওই মন্তব্যের জন্য ক্ষমা চেয়েছেন। তিনি ওই বিবৃতিতে যা বলেছেন, সেটা একেবারেই তাঁর ব্যক্তিগত অভিমত।

কংগ্রেস প্রজ্ঞার মন্তব্যের নিন্দায় বলল, শহিদদের অপমান করা বিজেপির ডিএনএ-তে রয়েছে। প্রধানমন্ত্রী নরেন্দ্র মোদিকে ক্ষমা চাইতে হবে, এই দাবিও তুলেছে কংগ্রেস। বলেছে, মোদি এজন্য শাস্তি দিন প্রজ্ঞাকে। কংগ্রেসের প্রধান মুখপাত্র রণদীপ সিংহ সুরজেওয়ালা বলেন, এটা পরিষ্কার, বিজেপির লোকজন গডসের উত্তরসূরী। ওরা গডসেকে দেশপ্রেমিক, শহিদ হেমন্ত কারকারেকে বিশ্বাসঘাতক বলে। হিংসার সংস্কৃতি, শহিদদের অসম্মান করা বিজেপির ডিএনএ-তে রয়েছে। মোদি-অমিত শাহজির প্রিয় বিজেপি নেত্রী প্রজ্ঞা সিংহ ঠাকুর গাঁধীর ঘাতক নাথুরাম গডসেকে এক ‘প্রকৃত দেশপ্রেমিক’ আখ্যা দিয়ে ফের গোটা দেশকে অপমান করলেন। বিজেপি তার নেতাদের মাধ্যমে জাতির জনকের চিন্তাভাবনা, দর্শন, পথের ওপর বারবার ‘জঘন্য আক্রমণ’ চালাচ্ছে বলেও অভিযোগ করেন সুরজেওয়ালা। বলেন, এটা গাঁধীবাদী নীতিকে অপমানের চক্রান্ত। এক ক্ষমাহীন অপরাধ যা কখনও দেশ মেনে নেবে না। মোদিজি মধ্যে সামান্য বিচক্ষণতা থেকে থাকলে তিনি অবশ্যই প্রজ্ঞাকে শাস্তি দিয়ে দেশের কাছে ক্ষমা চাইবেন।

বিজেপি মুখপাত্র জিভিএল নরসিমা রাও বলেন, আমরা মহাত্মা গাঁধী সম্পর্কে ওর বক্তব্যের সঙ্গে একেবারেই ভিন্নমত পোষণ করি। তীব্র নিন্দা করছি। কেন তিনি এমন বললেন, দল তার কাছে ব্যাখ্যা চাইবে। এই আপত্তিকর মন্তব্যের জন্য প্রকাশ্যে উনি ক্ষমা চেয়ে নিন, সেটাই ঠিক হবে।
