Background

Araria: In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Tasleem Uddin from Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) won the elections by a margin of 146504 votes. The polling / voting in Araria constituency in the 2019 General elections took place in Phase 3 on 23 April. The major contest is between Bharatiya Janata Party#s Pradeep Singh and Rashtriya Janata Dal#s Sarfaraz Alam

Araria 2014 Lok Sabha Polls

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Bharatiya Janata Party won 22 out of the 40 parliamentary seat with 29.4 percent vote share while the Lok Janshakti Party managed to win just 6 seats with a 6.4 percent vote share.

Out of the 13 Lok Sabha candidates who contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Araria, 10 had to deposit their security. The voters gave their mandate in favour of Tasleem Uddin of the Rashtriya Janata Dal as he defeated Pradeep Kumar Singh by a margin of 146504 votes.

  • 2004 Lok Sabha Elections: In 14th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated Samajwadi Party candidate with a difference of 27744 votes. Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Sukdeo Paswan attained 216677 votes and Samajwadi Party candidate Ramji Das Rishideo bagged 188933 votes
  • 1999 Lok Sabha Elections: In 13th Lok Sabha election, interesting battle could be seen between Rashtriya Janata Dal and Bharatiya Janta Party here Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate defeated his Bharatiya Janta Party counterpart with a difference of 2169 votes.
  • 1998 Lok Sabha Elections: In 12th Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janta Party candidate defeated Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate with a difference of 33937 votes. Here, Bharatiya Janta Party leader Ramje Das Rishideo attained 309233 votes and Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate Geeta Devi bagged 275296 votes
  • 1996 Lok Sabha Elections: In 11th Lok Sabha election, JD candidate defeated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate with a difference of 48278 votes. Here, JD leader Sukdeo Paswan attained 250263 votes and Bharatiya Janta Party candidate Ramji Rishideo bagged 201985 votes
  • 1991 Lok Sabha Elections: In 10th Lok Sabha poll, JD candidate defated Bharatiya Janta Party candidate in one-sided contest. Here, JD candidate Sukdeo Paswan attained 292887 votes and BJP's Sukha Paswan bagged 121893 votes.
  • 1989 Lok Sabha Elections: In Ninth Lok Sabha election, JD candidate had defeated Indian National Congress candidate by a margin of 72655 votes JD candidate Sukdeo Paswan had got 245693 while INC got Dumar Lal Bhitha votes.
  • 1984 Lok Sabha Elections: In 8th Lok Sabha poll, Indian National Congress candidate defated LKD candidate in one-sided contest. Here, INC candidate Doomar Lal Baitha attained 294582 votes and LKD's Mahendra Nasardar bagged 95696 votes.
  • 1980 Lok Sabha Elections: In 7th Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated JNP(S) candidate by a margin of 62824 votes INC(I) candidate Dumar Lal Baitha had got 189309 while JNP(S) got Nawal Kishore Bharti votes.
  • 1977 Lok Sabha Elections: In Sixth Lok Sabha poll, BLD candidate defated INC candidate in one-sided contest. Here, BLD candidate Mahendra Narayan Sardar attained 221829 votes and INC's Dumar Lal Baitha bagged 113295 votes.
  • 1971 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fifth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated NCO candidate by a margin of 83185 votes INC candidate Tul Mohan Ram had got 134162 while NCO got Dumar Lal Baitha votes.
  • 1967 Lok Sabha Elections: In Fourth Lok Sabha election, Indian National Congress candidate had defeated BJS candidate by a margin of 70649 votes INC candidate T. M. Ram had got 119954 while BJS got J. Ram votes.
