2021 Election Dates Calendar: Check List of State Assembly Elections Slated To Happen Next Year

After Bihar witnessed the most dramatic and tight contest in the 2020 elections with Nitish Kumar returning as the Chief Minister of the state for his fourth consecutive term, it's time for other state assembly elections next year.

New Delhi: Bihar Election was India's first big election after the world was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. After the state witnessed the most dramatic and tight contest, Nitish Kumar returned as the Chief Minister of the state for his fourth consecutive term. Kumar-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar, won a majority of 125 in the 243-seat assembly. Nitish Kumar's JD(U) managed to win only 43 seats, and Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) four each, compared to the BJP which managed to secure a victory on 74 seats in the 243-member Bihar Assembly. RJD on the other hand came out as the single largest party with as many as 75 seats. Assam: Legislative Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in Assam in April 2021. In the previous elections in 2016, the election brought a change of power as the Indian National Congress (INC), which had formed the government under Tarun Gogoi since 2001, lost its majority to the Bharatiya Janata Party led by Sarbananda Sonowal. Kerala: The Kerala Legislative Assembly election is scheduled to be held in Kerala in 2021 which will vote to elect 140 MLAs to the 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly. In the previous elections in 2016, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) had won the election securing around two-third of the total seats to the assembly, defeating the incumbent United Democratic Front (UDF), led by the Indian National Congress (INC), which could only win 47 seats in the election. Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections to be held in Tamil Nadu on May 2021 for the 234 seats of the Legislative Assembly in the state. This particular election will be the first full-state legislative election without the popular J. Jayalalithaa and M. Karunanidhi, as they both passed away in 2016 and 2018, respectively.  The stage will be set for new leaders for arch rivals AIADMK and DMK. West Bengal: Legislative Assembly elections for 294 seats of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly are scheduled in 2021. In the previous elections in 2016, the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) retained its majority in the Legislative Assembly. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 3 of the 294 elected seats. Jammu & Kashmir: Assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are likely to be held in 2021, as per elections.in. After the Ladakh division separates from Jammu and Kashmir, the total number of Assembly seats will come down from 87 to 83 since the four seats of Leh, Kargil, Zanskar, and Nubra would no longer be part of the J&K legislative assembly.
