What Is The 'Cheating' Case Against FIIT-JEE That Delhi Police's EOW Is Investigating?

FIIT-JEE, a prominent coaching institute, faces allegations of cheating and financial misconduct. The Delhi Police's EOW is investigating the alleged fraud after complaints from parents.

FIIT-JEE, a leading name in India’s competitive exam coaching industry, is now embroiled in a massive controversy as allegations of cheating and financial misconduct surface against its founder, Dinesh Goyal. The Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has taken over the investigation following widespread complaints from parents and students.

The Delhi Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has registered a case of cheating against FIITJEE after 190 complaints regarding its Preet Vihar center's sudden closure. Cases have also been filed in Ghaziabad, Noida, and Bhopal. In February, ₹11.11 crore was seized from FIITJEE founder Dinesh Goyal’s bank accounts.

What Led To The Investigation Against FIIT-JEE?

Trouble began for FIIT-JEE when it abruptly shut down several of its coaching centres across Delhi-NCR, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh in January 2025. Among the affected locations was the Preet Vihar centre in East Delhi, which triggered 35 formal complaints from parents. These complaints were initially filed with the local police before being forwarded to the EOW due to the suspected scale of financial irregularities.

Parents alleged that FIIT-JEE collected hefty tuition fees but failed to deliver on its promises. Parents alleged that they paid lakhs in fees only to learn later that the centres would be closed.

Crores Misappropriated

According to news agency IANS, police investigations revealed several instances of corruption linked to Dinesh Goyal. The Greater Noida Police seized over Rs 11.11 crore from 12 bank accounts associated with him. Goyal reportedly operated 172 current accounts and 12 savings accounts.

The complaints also accused FIIT-JEE of conspiring to divert the funds paid as fees by parents. This has led to the registration of multiple FIRs being filed under sections related to cheating and criminal breach of trust across Noida, Ghaziabad, and Bhopal.

Impact on Students, Parents, And Teachers

The abrupt shutdown of FIIT-JEE centres left thousands of students stranded mid-course, jeopardising their academic futures. Parents are demanding justice and refunds for the fees paid in advance. Many are questioning how an institution with 73 study centres nationwide could collapse so suddenly.

FIIT-JEE, in January, had tried to control the damage, saying the "present turmoil is temporary" and promising efforts to resume operations. FIIT-JEE further blamed its managing partners for the shutdowns.

The shutdowns even hit teachers at the centres, who had to resign after FIIT-JEE allegedly withheld their salaries. After the shutdowns, many staffers were also either arrested or booked.
